Town Administrator still on medical leave

LYNDEBOROUGH — While Town Administrator Kate Thorndike remains on unpaid medical leave, Burton Reynolds will continue his part-time duties as acting town administrator during the upcoming budget season.

Reynolds started working about 15 hours a week in May, shortly after Thorndike went on leave. He said Tuesday that Select Board members met with Thorndike last week to discuss her situation. On Wednesday, in response to a request for comment from the Ledger-Transcript relayed through Administrative Assistant Cindy Hasty, Thorndike said she is still on medical leave and will be meeting with the Select Board again in a few months.

Select Board Chair Kevin Boette declined to comment about the board’s long-range plan for the position when contacted by email Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the town is starting the budget planning process. At a meeting Tuesday, Select Board members agreed to include a 1.5 percent cost of living increase for town employee wages in next year’s budget.

Reynolds said the first of a series of meetings of the Budget Committee will begin on Dec. 3, starting at 6:30 in the town office. The committee plans to review initial draft budgets of the Conservation Commission, Historic District Commission/Heritage Commission, planning and zoning boards, health inspector, emergency management, cemetery and library.
