Voters at the ConVal deliberative session turned down efforts to reduce the district’s proposed budget for next year and to strip funding for repaving of the ConVal High School parking lot.

The recommended budget that voters will see when they go to the polls on March 11 will remain at $45,793,510. A proposal made by former School Board member Gail Cromwell of Temple to reduce the amount to $45,022,549 — which is the same as the default budget amount that will be used if the budget fails to get voter approval in March — was rejected. Sixty-two of the residents at the meeting backed Cromwell’s motion, but 107 were against it.

Cromwell also proposed changing the parking lot warrant article so that no money would be appropriate. The motion also failed, with 64 in favor and 101 opposed.

No efforts were made to amend three other proposals — to repair the track at ConVal High School, to revise the South Meadow School exit road to provide two exit lanes and to purchase a tractor for the Facilities Department.
