ZBA approves sign at business park on 202
PETERBOROUGH — A 79-square-foot sign for the Brookstone Business Center will soon be going up at the corner of Route 202 and Vose Farm Roads, following Zoning Board of Adjustment approval of a variance on May 6.
The sign, which will replace two smaller signs on the property, will identify tenants in the former Brookstone building and the former NEBS building. Neither building is highly visible from Route 202 and a sign is crucial for his tenants, according to Peter Brown, manager and chief financial officer of Juniper Peterborough LLC, the Winchester, Mass., real estate firm that owns the buildings.
“The first question I get is ‘Do I get a sign up on 202?’” Brown told the ZBA members. “We’re trying to make sure customers and delivery trucks are directed correctly.”
Brown gave the board drawings of the proposed sign, which is being designed by Reed Hayes of Archetype Signworks, a company that’s a tenant in the former Brookstone building at 9 Vose Farm Road. It will be 10 feet tall, internally illuminated with three-foot wide panels for each tenant. Hayes told the board. The sign will have room for 14 tenants at 9 Vose Farm Road and seven tenants at 49 Vose Farm Road, the former NEBS building.
Current tenants at 9 Vose Farm Road, in additions to Archetype Signworks, are Above and Beyond Moving and Stores, Ames Planning, Armored Textiles, Monadnock Family Services, Monadnock Worksource and Eastern Mountain Sports, which has a photography studio there. Tenants at 49 Vose Farm Road are Dahle North America, For Your Pleasure Inc., Graphic Dimensions, W.G. Ellerkamp and Eastern Mountain Sports.
Board members ruled that denying the variance would result in unnecessary hardship because the building entrances cannot be seen from the highway and adequate signage “is necessary for the economic vitality of these commercial properties.”
On Monday, Brown said engineering work will begin soon on the sign.
“Hopefully, we’ll get it up in the next couple of months,” he said.
