Rindge Police Log: April 2, 2013
Thursday, March 21
Accident: At 3:45 p.m., police responded to the intersection of Route 202 and Forristall Road for a minor two-car crash. Sarah Mercier, 19, of Rindge was driving a 2000 Mazda south on Route 202 when her vehicle was struck by a 2006 Toyota, driven by Jason Mertzic, 35, of Barre, Mass., that had pulled out of Forristall Road onto Route 202 in front of her, according to police. Mertzic was cited for failure to yield the right of way to oncoming traffic. Mercier’s vehicle sustained moderate front-end damage, but was drivable. Mertzic’s vehicle sustained minor front-end damage and was also drivable. There were no reported injuries.
Arrest: At 5:51 p.m., police arrested Andrew Berard, 24, of Rindge at Honey Farms on a warrant issued by the Rindge Police Department, charging him with reckless operation. He was released on $1,000 personal recognizance with an April 3 arraignment at the 8th Circuit Court in Jaffrey.
Friday, March 22
Must appear: At 11:10 p.m., police observed a 2004 BMW pull out of Honey Farms’ parking lot and onto Route 119 at a high-rate of speed and fishtail back and forth on the road. The driver, Gavin Anderson, 19, of Taylors, S.C., was arrested and charged with negligent driving. He was released on a must appear summons with an April 3 court date.
Wednesday, March 27
Arrest: At 9:55 p.m., while patrolling North Street, police observed a 17-year-old Rindge resident, who they knew had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. Police arrested the 17-year-old on the warrant issued by the Rindge Police Department, charging him with disobeying an officer, reckless operation, speed and defective equipment. He was also charged with breech of bail. The 17-year-old was released on $10,000 personal recognizance with an April 3 court date. Police said the 17-year-old was observed driving at a high-rate of speed on the evening of March 22 and, despite a police pursuit, the driver refused to pull over.
