Court OKs Special Town Meeting to approve budget

The Cheshire County Superior Court has granted the town of Rindge’s request for a Special Town Meeting this summer to implement a 12-month budget, according to Select Board member Roberta Oeser.

Town officials attended an evidentiary hearing Monday morning at the Superior Court in Keene, where they presented evidence to the court about the need for a Special Town Meeting. Rindge is without a budget as a result of voters’ decision in March to rescind a 2012 vote that would have changed the town’s fiscal year with a one-time 18-month budget.

Voters will have an opportunity to weigh in on the proposed operating budget of $3,707,000 at a deliberative session slated for mid-June, said Oeser by phone on Monday. She said the Select Board is considering an evening meeting the week of June 17.

After the deliberative session, Oeser said Rindge must wait at least 28 days to hold it’s Special Town Meeting, which means that a vote on the budget would not be scheduled until after the Fourth of July holiday.
