Interfaith service for Thanksgiving
The Jaffrey-Rindge Interfaith Thanksgiving Service will be held at the Monadnock Quaker Meeting on Sunday at 2 p.m.
For many years, Jaffrey and Rindge have had a tradition of celebrating an Interfaith Thanksgiving service together on the Sunday before the holiday. This year, the Thanksgiving service will be held at the Monadnock Quaker Meeting, 3 Davidson Rd., off Route 202 at the border of Jaffrey and Peterborough.
The service will be held in the manner of a Quaker Friends Meeting. It is the custom for Friends to hold Meeting for Worship in silence for an hour each week.
By quieting down, one may hear a message from a deeper place in oneself. At that time, one may want to stand and share the thought. Yet, many times no one will speak at all and the deeper silence lays comfort on all. Although Quaker worship grew within the Christian community in England during the 17th century, today it includes people from many faith backgrounds.
At the Thanksgiving service, it is expected that friends from many of the faith communities in the Monadnock area might want to share an hour together at this special people’s holiday. Afterwards there will be refreshments. Child care is available. The Monadnock Quaker Meeting is handicapped accessible.
