Support helped Monadnock Music

To the editor:

An open letter to the Monadnock community: As we complete Monadnock Music’s extraordinary 2013 season, I would like to take a moment to express my gratitude for the opportunity to serve the greater Monadnock community through Monadnock Music. Without the leadership of our board of trustees, the dedication and professionalism of our staff, and the truly inspiring support of this community, Monadnock Music would not have made so much progress in such a short time.

During the last year alone, the community has supported Monadnock Music through: increased ticket income and attendance; increased individual donations to our annual fund; increased program advertising; increased direct support of our village concerts through our donation baskets; increased business support and partnerships; increased fundraising events income. In most cases, these increases are in the range of 20 percent or even more. Consistent with this community support, the Board of Directors has: increased board giving by double over 2011; more than doubled our working capital base; completed and launched a five year strategic plan; raised the programming to the level it now enjoys under our new artistic director, Gil Rose, with New Hampshire, Massachusetts and New York City recognition; built stronger relationships with other of the area’s cultural leaders, including the MacDowell Colony, the Cathedral of the Pines and the Walden School, among others.

To be sure, much remains to be done, and there is much potential to be realized, but this poses an exciting challenge for the next leadership team. This community is indeed fortunate, not only because of its institutions, but because of the wonderful people of this region who support them and sustain them. Thank you.
