Letter: What are you willing to gamble?
To the editor:
Step right up, citizens of New Hampshire! Spin the wheel for free money!
That’s right. You no longer have to pay taxes for services you use or to help out the less fortunate among us.
The way this game is played. “Other people” will pay the price for the roads and bridges — and all the other things we don’t want to pay for.
Isn’t that what good government is all about? Simply make a deal with private interests — and they’ll pick up the bill.
What a deal! Those generous faceless folks behind the casino curtain will take care of it.
No more tough decisions, such as should we raise the gas tax — or scale back on the ever-widening of I-93?
We can have it all. Heck, isn’t this what our forebears meant by Live Free. Not convinced? Here’s a selling point: Massachusetts is doing it.
You put down your decency, honest citizen government, and a quality of life ever-rarer and irrecoverable… and you takes your chances.
What have we got to lose?
