Orioles cruise to 16-2 win

Conant senior Kelsey Smith tossed her second straight one-hitter to begin the season on Wednesday, as the Orioles improved to 2-0 with a 16-2 victory over Monadnock.

Smith struck out 10 and both of Monadnock’s third inning runs were unearned.

The Orioles’ offense continued its hot start, racking up a second double digit victory. Conant scored 12 runs in the sixth, sending 17 hitters to the plate, to down the Huskies in six innings. Through two games, Conant had scored 34 runs.

The Orioles took a 2-0 lead in the first on a two-run double by sophomore Katie Chadbourne and added one more run in each of the second and third innings.

Chadbourne finished 4-for-5 with three doubles. Freshman Devon Blood had two hits, including a two-run triple in the sixth. Sophomore Ivy Chalke had her second three-hit game of the season, while Reenie Kim and Sierra Landry each had two.

Conant will travel to Hopkinton today and hosts Campbell on Friday.
