Weekend games on tap at CV, Conant

It will be a jam-packed weekend of athletics on the campuses of ConVal and Conant high schools.

The annual homecoming festivities at ConVal will begin Friday night with the girls volleyball and football games and will run through Sunday’s Hall of Fame induction ceremony, while at Conant, it will be a one-day event.

The ConVal girls volleyball team, which is riding a program record four-game winning streak, will kick off the weekend in the renovated gymnasium with its match against Sunapee at 6 p.m.

The football team will be looking for its first win of the season when it plays host to Kearsarge. The Cougars are coming off their second shutout defeat of the season and will try and turn it around against Kearsarge, which it coming off its first win last week.

On Saturday, the action at Conant begins at 10 a.m. the first of three rivalry games on the docket. The field hockey team is seeking the season sweep over Mascenic after defeating the Vikings at their homecoming last Saturday, 1-0.

The Conant girls soccer team will go for its first win of 2013 when it hosts Wilton-Lyndeborough at noon. WLC won the first meeting on Sept. 16, 5-1.

And to cap off the day, the boys soccer team will try and even the season series with Mascenic. The Vikings held court at their homecoming last weekend with a 2-1 last minute victory, so the Orioles will look to return the favor.

At ConVal, the field hockey team will start the day when it hosts Division III Monadnock at 11 a.m.

At noon, the girls soccer team takes on Lebanon, followed by the boys soccer team’s tussle with the Raiders at 2 p.m.

And on Sunday, the third class of the ConVal Athletic Hall of Fame will be inducted at Monadnock Country Club at 1 p.m.

Longtime coach John Reitnauer, football standout Brad Davis, athlete, coach and contributor Sandy Eneguess and former Peterborough High School basketball coach John Clark, who passed away in 1991, will all be honored at the event.
