ConVal alum Mackey honored
2013 ConVal graduate and Clark University freshman Lauren Mackey was named to the NEWMAC field hockey all-conference second-team this week. Mackey finished eighth in the league in goals (15) and points (32), both of which were good enough to lead her Clark Cougars team.
She started all 18 games and had several explosive offensive performances, including a four-goal, one-assist display in just her second career game – a 5-0 win over Becker. Mackey also had a hat trick in a win over Wheelock and scored two of the Cougars’ three goals in a 3-0 win over Wheaton.
Mackey made the switch from defense/midfield, which she played in high school, to a forward position, helping fill the scoring void for a Clark team that graduated 70 percent of its scoring last year.
“Lauren is the kind of player that as a coach you can really count on to work hard to develop her skills, and she puts in extra time to do that,” Clark field hockey coach Linda Wage said. “She wants to be the best, that’s just her makeup, and she wants to be a great team player too. She’s really a wonderful young woman to have around because shes a great example to others.”
