The Greenville tax rate is set for the coming year at $27.79 per $1,000 of valuation, a $2.64 jump from last year’s rate.

Under the new rate, a homeowner with a house valued at $200,000 could expect to pay an additional $528 in taxes this year, if the valuation of their home did not change.

During a meeting Wednesday to set the rate, the Select Board voted to use $120,000 of the town’s unexpended fund balance to offset the tax burden, according to Town Administrator Tara Sousa. That level of funding kept the municipal portion of the tax rate at $12.47, which is the same as last year’s municipal rate.

The majority of the increase comes from the local school portion of the tax rate, which rose from $9.67 last year to $12.62 this year. This increase was offset by a drop in the state education tax, which dipped from $1.84 to $1.46.

The county tax increased by 7 cents, rising from $1.17 to $1.24.
