ConVal and Coe-Brown played 100 minutes without a single goal Thursday night in a thrilling senior night contest that featured stellar goalkeeping from both sides.

ConVal’s Wyatt Beaulieu and Coe-Brown’s Waylon Walker were tested often in net during the final regular-season contest, and they were up to the task, as each made an array of diving and leaping saves to keep the pair of clean sheets.

The Cougars were bailed out twice; once, a Coe-Brown shot got past Beaulieu but was booted out of the net by a ConVal defender, and in overtime, a promising Bear shot hit the crossbar. Walker was beaten once as well, in the final minute of regulation, but the ball went past his outstretched hands about six inches wide of the right post.

ConVal (8-6-2) appears to have clinched the seventh seed in Division II and should host a home playoff game Tuesday at 3 p.m. against the 10-seed, which will be either Kennett, Merrimack Valley or Kingswood, depending on Friday’s results.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

ConVal clinches playoffs with pair of wins

The ConVal girls were fighting for their playoff lives this week, and they got the job done with a pair of shutouts.

After Wednesday’s 2-0 win against Plymouth, it was do-or-die for the Cougars at Coe-Brown Thursday in the season finale. Senior keeper Mairin Burgess pulled off another shutout, and Zoe Lazzaro converted a penalty kick for the 1-0 win.

ConVal finishes at 6-8-2, eking out the final spot over Coe-Brown (5-8-2); even with a Bear win over Souhegan in their season finale, ConVal would hold the tiebreaker.

The 12th seed means a trip to the fifth seed – currently up in the air between multiple teams pending today’s results – on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
